Es Pujol de s’Era comprises 33,022 square metres of wheat and barley fields, a small wood of common and Phoenician juniper and rosemary, and dry‐stone walls on a practically flat topography. The intervention seeks refuge among the existing vegetation and a fragment of dry‐stone wall. These two conditions draw out the dimensions, the orientation and the height of a construction of austere geometry that bears some relation to the architectural tradition of Formentera.

The north‐south orientation of the proposal generates a duality. 

The volume is defined by an envelope of rendered thermo‐clay masonry and reinforced concrete.The envelope containing the programme (12×12 m) extends in the two main directions, generating spaces of transition that are vital in these latitudes.

On the north side there is a small architecture studio, repeated on the south side in the form of a space of identical dimensions, designed as a small dwelling‐refuge for a couple.

 The program for Louhans Nursery School called for an updated and modern early childhood facility, with the capabilities of accommodating 40 children.  It is ideally located between two neighborhoods, however on a narrow plot of land that would require fencing. 

The scale of the project was of great importance to the architects, proposing a design that would respond to its existing surroundings while accommodating the needs of the school.  In addition, three vegetation zones were created in the building as private gardens or patios.This greatly helps to mask the traffic noise from South Street allowing the children to rest more easily.

 On the west facade the bays are wide open to nature with a canopy and a courtyard.  A playground with rounded shapes is created in this garden.

The neighborhood of Skanderborggade/Krausesvej is characterized by a mix of buildings made up of dense urban blocks from the turn of the 19th century,  interrupted by a scattering of villas, and by a large gap in the structure caused in part by urban renewal.

The client wanted a three unit daycare institution/nursery school,composed of three rooms for three respective daycare/nursery groups, each with an accompanying changing room, a common room, cloakroom, kitchen, administration and secondary rooms.

The building consists of two planes which extend to the boundaries of the site. One plane forms the ground terrain plane covering the contaminated ground, a second forms the roof.The ground terrain surface is folded upwards in such a way that it forms a hill or slope between the ground and roof. 

By the combining the cloakroom, wind trap and entrance areas, and by minimizing the area dedicated to hallways by making the access way to all of the main functions through the common room, it was possible to make the common space 80% larger than stipulated.

Facebook moving headquarters from Palo Alto to former Sun Microsystems campus in Menlo Park

Facebook is moving its headquarters from Palo Alto to the nearby former home of Sun Microsystems in Menlo Park.

David Ebersman, Facebook's chief financial officer, formally announced the move Tuesday morning in a news conference at the 57-acre Menlo Park property.

Facebook signed a 15-year lease for the Menlo Park campus with the option to buy it in five years, according to a company spokeswoman who asked that she not be named because she was not authorized to speak on the details of the lease.

The world's most popular social media website will start moving employees into the new campus in June or July and workers will probably continue to trickle into the new offices through late 2011 or early 2012. Facebook's leases in Palo Alto last through 2013, according to a company statement.

The new campus is about six miles from the two Palo Alto locations that make up Facebook's current headquarters.

The Menlo Park campus is made up of 11 buildings with about 1 million square feet of office space.

There are about 3,700 parking spaces at the Menlo Park campus. Facebook currently has more than 2,000 employees, with about 1,400 of them currently in Palo Alto, and is expected to grow its workforce.

The Menlo Park complex was built between 1993 and 1995 and was Sun's headquarters until it waspurchased by Oracle in January of last year.

Facebook also bought a nearby 22-acre tract of land that is connected to its soon-to-be headquarters by a tunnel underneath the Bayfront Expressway. The social networking giant made that purchase in preparation for a possible future expansion of the Menlo Park headquarters, the company said in a statement.

Microsoft has joined Google and Lego in the trend for offices like playgrounds with their new Vienna base that includes a slide.
Austrian architects Innocad won a competition to design the three-storey offices, which feature themed meeting rooms including a hunting lodge and ocean.
An x-ray image of a computer covers the rear wall of the reception, there's artificial grass in one of the coffee lounges and of course there are games rooms.
